Kinja'd!!!

So wife was driving to work this morning, and spots a deer carcass in the road too late to avoid without jumping the median or hitting another vehicle. In addition to ripping off the belly plate, the the entire bottom of the car was coated in deer poop, entrails and animal matter, though mechanically it looks like there’s no damage . She nursed it into the park and ride a block away and told me to come take a look at the car as it smelled horrible .

I went up to the park and ride, took one look at the scene above, and headed to the nearest Target to get some gloves and garbage bags. I pulled the entrails away from the driveshaft, crossmember and exhaust pipes as best I could then headed over to the closest touchless wash to get an underside spray.

It’s much better, but the car still smells horrible inside and out . I was going to put it on ramps and attack with soap, water and an all purpose household cleaner, but if anyone has any better techniques or ideas let me know.

I don’t think my IPhone Zero adequately captures the stink lines.

I think the $29.95 detail in this case would involve killing it with fire.

I’d go to an automatic car wash that does undercarriage.

Report to insurance and make them buy you a new car

Yep, looks like some deer belly plate hanging right there...

After rallies we used to park over the garden sprinkler and get most of the dirt caked on there. The nice thing is you can leave it on and let is wash real good for 15-20 minutes..

I would try that, maybe followed by a few cans of engine cleaner - that stuff smells on  it’s own..

I know the feeling. I had some issues with deer remnants last week...

There's still some stuck in the wheel well.

I’ll stop smelling after a week or two, depending on quantity.  As soon as it dries, the smell will be gone.

I did repairs to a Smart car that did the same thing. It took WEEKS for the smell to dissipate . No amount of cleaning with all sorts of chemicals helped. At one point it had vultures circling it in the parking lot.

It's a 4 yr old Dodge.   Insurance payout would be all of $2.37, even in clean condition.

That’s good for you, but what about the deer carcass?

Kinja'd!!! Svend > someassemblyrequired

Kinja'd!!!1

Well that’s a new one to me.

You can buy chassis cleaners such as Karcher’s Chassis Cleaner which is a large three wheeled trolley you connect to the Karcher pressure washer at one end and has a rotating section at the other end with two nozzles on and a detergent bottle in between to fill with shampoo, snow foam, detergent, sealant, etc...

As someone has said about driving over a sprinkler, that may be your best bet after you’ve sprayed plenty of anti bacterial cleaner under the car but otherwise you may want to take it to a detailer or ask your insurance what they’d recommend.

Alternatively if you have an off road centre near you, maybe worth asking them what they’d suggest as they may have some ideas and may have some chassis cleaning equipment.

Good luck.

I don’t have advice on cleaning the outside, but you may try charcoal and/ or one of those baking soda boxes designed to absorb smell on the inside. (The baking soda by the car section at Target, I think - you rip off the side and it’s just covered by something that looks like a dryer sheet). They’ve been better than most stuff at absorbing the smell when a skunk sprays in my crawl sp ace. It still takes a few days though.

Thanks , I’m going to get the car off the ground tomorrow and see what I can do, but I might end up seeing if I can get a hold of a chassis cleaner. That’s a great suggestion - th ere’s plenty of off-roading in the area, so it’s pretty likely that someone offers that service.

It’s not something I’ve ever came across but the principles are the same, remove the offending item then wash thoroughly with an anti microbial or disinfectant and rinse.

LOL, the reality involved 6 hours of the car up on ramps while I pulled deer carcass and a surprising amount of deer crap out and then cleaned and disinfected the underside as best I could. Then I drove around for a week with a fire extinguisher in the passenger seat. T he people stuck behind me got to enjoy the smell of  burning deer hair and smoked venison while the final layer of Bambi burnt off the cats and exhaust.

No worries, smell was still pretty pungent earlier this week, so it’s a good thing you waited until now to remind me of this.
